Walking home from the gym the other day I approached four youngsters (two couples) gathered around their car. From a distance I could see they were in the middle of one of those typically animated Spanish conversations. There were smiles beaming and plenty of gesturing and laughing. It was only as I got closer that I realised that in fact they were using sign language. I passed by not hearing a single thing – complete silence. Unbelievably bizarre but at the same time pretty neat.
